FULL CIRCLE – new album, with studio recording booked for July 11, 2025. The tunes will be performed in concert on July 12 at the Silk Purse Art Centre in West Vancouver. Album launch at Frankie’s Jazz Club in the fall.

The Wooden Bird

The Wooden Bird – a jazz suite in three chapters. Springs from a multi-media event in 1992 where original poetic/narrative text, complementary paintings, and integrative music formed an exhibition at the University of New Brunswick’s Art Centre.

Step Up – Story of a Debut Album

Although I began studying classical piano about age eight, I was thirty years old before I saw my first jazz fake sheet. After a year of study, I began playing with The Ungroupables in the late 1970s. From the mid-80s until I moved to Japan in 1996, I performed with Jazz Configuration, a newly formed quartet.

My original jazz composition “Benny Bengal Boy” honours the presence of Benny, our elderly male cat who came to us late in his life, and in ours. This first live performance by the Miles Black Trio was recorded at Pat’s Pub in Vancouver, Canada in July 2021. 

The track captures the jovial atmosphere of Pat’s Pub, where patrons chat openly while listening to live music.
